Le vin
French wines are officially divided into four categories: wines labelled Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) are of the highest quality; next in quality come those classed as Vins De Qualité Supérieure (VDQS); then vins de pays, local wines from an identifiable region ; and lastly vins de table, generic table wines. France produces red, white and rosé wines as well as sparkling and dessert wines. The major wine-producing regions include Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Loire Valley, the Rhone Valley and Champagne.
