voseo

sustantivo masculino
practice of using the 'vos' pronoun

Voseo
Voseo means the use of the “vos” form instead of “tú” in the second person singular. This is the norm in the River Plate region, where it is used with a special form of the verb in the present tense (e.g. “vos sabés” instead of “tú sabes”). It is also found in other areas of Latin America. In Chile and areas of Bolivia, Peru and Venezuela, “tú” is also used, indicating slightly less informality. The forms “vos” and “tú” are used alternately in Central America, ranging from mostly “vos” in Costa Rica to mostly “tú” in Panama. In these areas, “vos” may be used with the normal second person singular verb form (e.g. “vos tienes”).
