| Whatever the type of school, there is an orientation phase for all pupils between the ages of 10 and 12 ( 5./6. Klasse) this is known as the Orientierungsstufe . At this stage a pupil can easily be transferred from one school to another because they all follow the same programmes of study. It is not possible to resit these two years. If a pupil is having difficulties at the end of this period, it may be necessary for him/her to be moved from a Gymnasium, for example, to a Gesamtschule or Hauptschule . |
