Note

Throughout the German education system a common marking scale is used ( 16), so if a pupil changes school the grades are easily transferable. The grades range from 1 (highest) to 6 (lowest), and each grade is defined as follows: 1 = sehr gut (excellent); 2 = gut (good); 3 = befriedigend (satisfactory); 4 = ausreichend (adequate); 5 = mangelhaft (poor); 6 = ungenügend (unsatisfactory).
